OH MY ACHING BACK..AND NECK..AND LEGS!!
Stay Safe This Winter!
We love our patients and we don't want to see you in pain. As we age, our bones our more susceptible to breakage, along with daily aches and pains. Winter is a particularly harsh time of year on our bodies. This season brings an increased risk of slips and falls due to slippery surfaces. We have found that adhering to the following suggestions will lessen your chances of a slip or fall.
*Make sure your sidewalks and entryways are properly illuminated. Use salt on icy walkways and always remove the melted snow and ice after salting. Walk slowly and carefully and wear boots with adequate treads.
*Watch for slippery floors when you enter a home or building.
*While walking, keep your hands free. Try to avoid carrying items or walking with your hands in your pockets. If you do lose your balance, it is more difficult to catch yourself if your hands are occupied.
*Be on the lookout for dangerous black ice. A surface might look dry, but may actually be covered with this slick sheet of wetness. Test the surface with your foot before walking on it.
*If possible, avoid uneven surfaces. If a step or curb has ice on it, avoid it!
*Remember, those handrails next to steps are there for you to use. They will help you keep your balance in the event of ice or snow.
Most importantly, take your time. Walk slowly and plant your feet firmly as you move forward. Stay warm. Stay safe. Enjoy this beautiful time of year! We are here when you need us!
