You have pain. Yes, you can relieve your pain at home!
What are the best ways to relieve your pain at home?
You may think that you are at the mercy of your pain when you are at home. But there are several effective methods to manage your pain in between your chiropractic appointments. These methods are easy and effective; consistency is the key!
*Chill out! Ice, ice, baby! Ice reduces inflammation. Although heat may feel wonderful because it masks the pain, it actually exacerbates your inflammation.
*Move it! All of our body parts are meant to move, including our spine. Continue your regular activities to the best of your ability. Walk the dog, go to work, practice yoga, etc. Once you feel improvement, aerobic exercises, such as swimming, walking and bicycling can help improve your mobility.
*Strengthen. Once your pain has lessened, you can avoid a flare-up by exercising the muscles that support your lower back. When your hip, pelvic and abdominal muscles are strong, they are able to give your back more support.
*Stretch it out! If you sit at a desk all day, try to stand up every 20 minutes or so and stretch. Usually, when we lean forward at a desk we are slumping our shoulders and spine. When you stand, stretch backwards.
*Lower those shoes! Wear low heels. And low means less than one inch. High heels create unstable posture, and increase pressure on your lower spine.
These are just a few simple steps to remember when your pain flares up at home. You don't have to live in misery! Work it out now!
